We arrived at Stone Castle at 8pm and were greeted by Sandra, along with other staff members and guests.
Mick, Kevin and Dante proceeded to have a walk around of the building and set up various lock off experiments such as trigger objects and camcorders and also take EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) and temperature readings.
Trigger objects are a method of arousing spirits curiosity as we use old coins or crystals and draw around them on a sheet of plain white paper and leave them in a secured area so no one else has access to them. If at the end of the evening’s investigation, those objects have been moved from outside of the lines drawn around them, we will know that curiosity got the better of them!
While having a walk around of this most beautiful and historic venue, Sandra tells us how on a previous paranormal groups visit, the Christmas fairy lights which are stored in the basement suddenly switched themselves on when they were checking that area.
Dante comments on how the batteries for his investigation equipment have all gone flat. This is a common thing for paranormal investigators and so it’s no surprise to us when we hear this, obviously the spirit energies present are eager to make their presence felt already! Kevin notices the same thing when he is trying to set up the motion sensors.
At 9pm we are ready to begin the investigation and so Kevin opens with a spiritual protection for the group and it’s guests. The teams split in to 2 groups, with Team 1 covering the upstairs areas first, and Team 2 covering downstairs.
Stone Castle Scientific Report Compiled by Dante Machiavelli
Pre investigation readings are as follows:
Basement room Nil EMF / 60% humidity / 19.9°C.
Basement storage room Nil EMF / 62% humidity / 19.8 – 20°C.
Chapel EMF Nil / 52% humidity / 20.7°C.
EVP lock off room 1 Nil EMF / 48% - 49% humidity / 22°C.
Note 1.
During the EVP setup phase, (with Dante, Mick and Kevin present) in the observation room, Kevin hears a voice groan in anger or disappointment in the hallway leading up to the lock off room.
As we venture outside to investigate the cause of the disturbance, Dante hears a cat hissing and very briefly sees a black cat run around the corner.
As Kevin and Mick investigate around the nearby corners and rooms Dante takes several infrared pictures of the area.
It is then that we all notice (at exactly the same time) a heavy trail ingrained into the carpet, which leads up to the room where the EVP set had been placed. The markings on the carpet were similar to those that would be left in the carpet from a buggy or pram, of particular note is the trail went straight through several heavy objects and directly into the second EVP room.
The trail was most definitely not there on the way in as the area was thoroughly examined by Dante for any unusual marks or signs on the walls, floors and rooms, and no abnormalities were found.
Also of note is that there is a highly unusual clicking sound that was picked up on the EVP set in the second locked off area, which increased and decreased in frequency and loudness, so a mechanical fault with the tape player was ruled out. There was also what sounded mildly like an air raid siren and a scream or distant cry in the background.
21:15hrs
First room with open fire Nil EMF / 45% humidity / 21 – 23°C.
Room 2 – Nil EMF / 45% – 46% humidity / 24.1°C.
Admin room – 0.6mg / 47% – 54% / 24.5°C.
Room 4 – left corner EMF (possible cables in corner of wall?) 47% – 54% humidity / 24.5°C.
Room 5 – Nil EMF / 41% humidity / 24.8°C.
Chapel – Nil EMF / 46% – 47% / 23.5°C.
Stone Castle Analogue (Audio) Analysis
Tape One: Side A.
01:08m
A clicking noise that sounds like a walking cane striking the floor or an old clock, or a blacksmith forging swords? Clicking sounds pauses 01:48 minutes into the recording and then re-commences at 02:08m and then stops at 02:43m. Clicking starts again at 03:19m and stops at 04:00m. 04:19m Clicking sound resumes and stops 04:51m. 05:24m clicking sounds resume and stops 06:02m. 06:15m clicking sound resumes, stops at 06:54m. 07:35m Clicking sounds resume 08:01. (I shall stop keeping track of the clicking from this point onwards as it appears to be so frequent and I anticipate it running all the way through the recording this side of the tape.)
10:00m
Around this period the clicking noises seem to get much louder then fade away, as though something paces right up to the tape player and then walks away…
35:00m (roughly) around this time the clicking stops and a gentle humming kicks in (sounds like a distant air raid siren going from high to low repeatedly)
Tape One: Second side recorded nil.
Conclusion:
In room 3 one of the guests cried a tear but wasn’t sure why they felt sad, several seconds afterwards there were short uncontrolled interrupted bursts that came through over the mobile radios the team were carrying, although the transmission wasn’t clear enough to make out any voices, and no EVP equipment was recording in the room at the time. Possible explanations for this are nearby taxis, law enforcement vehicles and other people using public wave radios.
22:02hrs
Dante changed the EVP tape recorder in the second lock off area to the reverse side, and just as the tape is finished being turned over to re-record multiple members of team two hear a scream in the background on the ground floor. Later when this tape is changed by Dante (with Kevin present this time) Dante decides to take some extra infra red photos of the area, then when the infra red film runs out Dante has to go to the opposite end of the corridor to unload the infra red film (as it has to be loaded and unloaded in complete darkness) and Kevin hears a growling snarl head towards Dante as he walks away to the other side of the corridor.
22:20hrs
Footsteps were heard following Dante down into the basement when he set up a camcorder as part of a video capturing attempt. No one else was either in the basement or followed Dante down into the basement, yet he heard heavy footsteps leading into the basement as well as heavy breathing not more than two meters away from the camcorder while it was being set up.
Team 1 Investigation report compiled by Joanne Whichelow
Room 1 – Upper level
Jo asks the team and guests settle for a quiet vigil and calls out to spirit to make their presence known to us by tapping on something, making a sound, or touching one of us. Slight taps are heard in the corners of the roomand a bang was heard by the team in the corridoor outside, but nothing further was felt.
Room 2
As Dante takes readings, Claire captures orbs on her camera as she takes pictures. Dante then finds that his camera has suddenly stopped working for him, so he asks Jo to try it out of curiosity and it then works fine and takes pictures no problem!
Room 3
This room has a very heavy and oppressive feeling, which is noticed by the team and most of our guests. Michele comments on how her legs feel like lead, Gail feels heavy and dizzy, and Claire also feels the same, as does Catherine.
One of our guests feels emotional and feels a tear run down her face.
Dante detects fluctuations in the humidity readings and Jo feels the oppressive atmosphere is giving her a headache. At this point the walkie-talkie goes off, so Jo checks to see if Team 2 were trying to get hold of us, only to find that they weren’t and so again, our spirit friends could be trying to attract our attention!
Now all of Team 1 are suffering with headaches and Catherine develops a strange pain in her shoulder and elbow, and we find that we feel very hot all of a sudden, so Jo asks that we step out of this room and almost immeditately all of the symptons noted vanish as quickly as they appeared.
Room 4
As Team 1 were attempting a quiet vigil, Team 2 radio in to tell us that they have heightened spirit activity downstairs in the Chapel and so we decide to call a break for the guests while the Core Team check this out.
Room 5
Jo picks up on a male spirit energy who regarded women as subservient. Jo is sat on the floor at this point and she comments on how she can feel him prodding her in her back, as if he’s pushing her forwards so that she bows down. He would have regarded children in this same way also. As Claire films Jo on her camcorder, she tells us how she can see an orb around Jo’s back and it suddenly dashes away.
This male energy is very persistent in how he makes Jo feel, so she asks that her spirit guides come forward and help her to remove him.
Claire and several of the team hear a scream in the corridoor outside but nothing is found when this is checked out.
At 23:09 the 2 teams swap over so they both get to investigate both the upper levels and downstairs equally.
Team 1 head off to the Chapel and try table tipping. There is slight movement felt and creaks heard, but nothing definite. It is felt the energy is quite flat in the room at this time and nothing is picked up on. Catherine mentions how when she is doing work in there and has her iPod on, that she has given up trying to listen to it as the volume is constantly turned up or down or the music tracks are swapped around. Claire picks orbs up on her camcorder.
We head off to the basement areas next to see if we can find anything in there.
Jo picks up on a spirit male stood in the boiler end of the room and slight clicking noises are heard. Michele and Jo both stand in the boiler end of the room where the spirit male was sensed, and Dante accompanies them. As the team call out for spirit to make contact with us, Jo sees a black figure cross the gap in the doorway, and it does this several times. Catherine tells us that she feels quite uneasy in the basement areas.
Team 1 then meet up with Team 2 and enjoy a break before entering the Chapel for a combined energy vigil.

Stone Castle Staff Team Members: Sandra, Kara, & Karen.
9.15pm:
Team 2 started in the Chapel on the Ground Floor, the room felt peaceful and still. Kevin asked for communication and after several minutes of getting no response some of the team took their places around the table in the hope of spirit communicating via Table Tipping.Vibration was felt through the table and the wood did creak, however no definite movement occurred.
9.30pm:
The team then entered the Cellar. A female voice was heard and something touched Sandra and Denise, Kevin also felt something on the back of his hand. Barbra then suggested that some team members look into the back part of the cellar to see if they could see anything. Both Denise and Nicki heard a noise over on the right and saw movement to the left. No explanation could be found. Adam felt something touch the back of his head. The whole team all felt freezing cold very suddenly although Mick felt very hot at this time. Mick saw a little girl and there were white flickering lights above him.
10pm:
All members of Team 2 were stood at the top of the Cellar stairs and heard a loud screech/scream. After radioing to Team 1, no explanation could be found for this noise, but all of the team agreed it came from inside the building.
10.05pm:
Mick stated that he felt we should go into the Chapel, on entering Mick switched on the light and as he did so, two bulbs blew into pieces shattering onto the floor below. Sandra explained this had happened on three occasions in the past month, but had never happened before that.
10.45:
Team 2 conducted quiet vigils in two other rooms on the ground floor with no activity to report.
11.10pm:
After a well earned break, Team 2 went to the Top Floor of the building. The first room we entered had a really strong smell a lot like plastic or rubber burning. Denise and Kevin simultaneously felt pain in their lower backs and Nicki saw a face at the door – all members of Team 1 were on the Ground Floor at this time.
Everyone started to feel very hot and that the atmosphere was very oppressive so we decided to move on.
11.27pm:
On entering the Conference Room upstairs everyone agreed this room was much cooler than the others. Kevin became very emotional as sensed a small child who had been punished, who felt cold, scared and alone.
11.45pm:
In the upstairs kitchen there was an oppressive atmosphere, the temperature was very hot with shadows seen through the crack of the door. (All members of Team 1 were downstairs at this time). Team 2 experienced what sounded like high pitched voices in response to requests for spirit communication and very strong smells alternating between fruit salad and sour milk.
12.30pm:
After a short break both teams went back along to the Chapel. Jo decided to try a combined energy vigil. The table responded very well, moving round and round and up and down the room. Various members of both teams took turns on the table and the table continued to respond really well.
01.00am:
Investigation concluded with closing protection led by Kevin.
Conclusion
This was an amazing night with fantastic paranormal activity!
The exploding lightbulbs, screams/screeches heard by both teams, orbs captured on camcorders and digital cameras, the table tipping and so on, are all examples of the suprises Stone Castle held in store for us.
It was such a wonderful opportunity to be given the chance to conduct a paranormal investigation in this venue and Portals To Beyond would like to extend their thanks to Sandra, the staff and guests for their warm welcome and enthusiasm on the night and we very much hope that we shall be able to make a return visit in the future.
We wish everyone at Stone Castle a successful and prosperous year and hope to work with you again soon!
Joanne Whichelow and Kevin Walker – Group Managers.
