The team arrived at The Ringlestone Inn at 9pm in plenty of time to settle down and introduce Michele and Claire to the rest of the team, as this was their first paranormal investigation.
At 11.15pm Mick and Dante set up our trigger object experiments. The first experiment consisted of 3 old coins placed on a plain sheet of paper, which were then drawn around, so that if they moved at all during the nights investigation, we would know and be able to record the evidence. The next trigger object consisted of 2 crystals with square bases, a tigers eye and earth jasper, which were also drawn around on plain paper, again to see if they were disturbed at all during the night. The coins were left in the bar lounge area and the crystals in the main doorway and these were not touched by human hand until we came to check back on them at the end of the night.
Dante conducts the baseline readings, which are listed below.

As we check through the rest of our equipment and set our cameras up, Jay who had been taking photographs, suddenly discovers his camera battery has already run flat and yet it was fully charged before he began. I asked him to test out our spirit friends by asking them to stop playing games and put his camera back on and as Jay did this, the camera did indeed switch itself back on. Gail then complains that the same thing has happened to her camera, although she couldn’t be sure that she’d fully charged her camera batteries before the investigation. So to simply test out if this was the case, Jay took her camera and asked for spirit to switch it back on and to our complete surprise the camera switched itself back on.
Time: 11.47pm
As soon as everyone is ready, we sit quietly while Kevin conducts our spiritual protection, asking everyone’s spirit guides to take care of us throughout the evening, also asking spirit to please work with us, as we seek only to work with truth in love and light and to prove that indeed life does go on beyond death.
We begin our investigation by sitting quietly in the fireplace area. Mick and Kevin ask spirit if they are present to let us know by either knocking on something, or touching a member of the team, or by moving our trigger objects for us. Jo picks up on a male presence, but feels the energy is not very strong. The team feel as if they are being watched and that spirit was holding back initially until they are sure what we’re about. Barbra comments that she has a headache and on our investigations, this is one of the things we look out for in our team members, as although a normal headache can’t be ruled out, it can also be a sign that spirit are too close to you. Kevin also picks up on this male energy and Dante notes that the humidity levels have dropped, but the temperature remains the same. As Mick calls out for spirit activity again, a thudding noise is heard near where Barbra is sat. Both Kevin and Barbra feel that the temperature has dropped and when Dante checks the humidity levels again, the humidity repeatedly fluctuates between 38% and 50%, which is a massive fluctuation. Jo clairvoyantly picks up on the name Paul and both her and Kevin pick up on the name Peter. As this male energy is sensed, Mick feels that there is a connection with robbers and Penenden Heath.
Our research showed that there is a history of smugglers being hung there. The team notice that the atmosphere in the room is changing and Mick says he felt like he was prodded in the left side of his chest, but there are no abnormal readings, apart from continually fluctuating humidity levels. Jo and Mick notice that Kevin has gone very quiet and call his name out, only to find that Kevin was overshadowed by a heavy male spirit presence and Mick had to wake him to shake him out of it. Kevin describes this male as being of large build, very stocky with a rugged face wearing an open necked shirt with a neckerchief. He feels this man was never the Landlord here, but he ruled the roost none the less and he is very interested in the female members of the team.
The team decide to move on to the next area, which was the restaurant, to conduct a ouija board experiment.
As Kevin sets this up and the rest of team wait, Gail suddenly feels a heavy breath across the back of her neck. Once the board is ready for use, Claire, Mick and Jay each place a finger lightly on the glass and ask for spirit to move it, to firstly let us know if they are there and then once contact is established, to move the glass to letters that would spell out their name.
Nothing happens at first, so Mick decides to come off the board and put Jo in his place. The energies build up slowly at first, but once we have a good flow of energy and the glass is moving nicely, Jo asks the spirit present to spell out their name. The glass moves to the letters EDIF and Jo asks for further clarity on this and for the spirit to try again. This time we get EDIE and as this could be a ladies name, Jo asks if they are male, and the glass moves to YES. We now presume the name to be “Eddie”. Jo asked if EDIE has children, and again the glass moves to YES. EDIE is then asked if he has lost his children and he says YES and when asked if this was through illness, he again answers YES. Jo asked if the children are trapped here and EDIE answers NO. Mick now picks up on the name Edward Williams and asks me to ask if it’s him.
As Jo asks this question the glass moves to YES. Mick also feels the energy of a little girl close by and asks if this is EDIE’S Daughter. The glass moves to YES. Jo asks for the Daughters name, and the glass moves to the letters JUL. We ask if this is Julie and the glass moves to NO. We ask if the name was Juliet, but again the glass moves to NO, so we ask if the name was Julia and the glass stops dead in it’s movement.
Jo then asks for Michele to join us on the ouija board. This was both Claire and Michele’s first paranormal investigation and Jo was keen for them to experience as much of the nights proceedings as possible. Once the energies build up again, Jo asks who we have present on the board this time and asks for the spirit to spell out their first or given name. The glass moves to spell out the name JULIA, so we presume this to be the Daughter of EDIE. The glass moves to YES when she is asked if she is happy with Mummy and Daddy. We ask JULIA how old she is and the glass moves to the letters XI, which we know to be the number 11 in roman numerals. Jo asks if her Daddy sent her to say hiya to us and again the glass moves to YES.
At this point the glass begins to move continuously back and forth between the letters H and U. The team try to make sense of this repeated movement, when Jo wonders if the spirit girl is asking “Who” we are (Who – Hu). So to test this theory out, Jo says “Hello Julia, I’m Jo, this is Claire, Jay and Michele” and immediately the glass stops moving between the letters H and U and beings to move in a circle once more. As the glass is doing this, Jo explains to the team that it was obvious the child would want to know who we were, when all is said and done, we asked for her name, so it’s only natural that she would want to know who we were, typical childrens curiosity!
The team have a break at 1am and discuss their findings so far. Dante and Mick check on the trigger objects and discover that not only have the coins been moved, but the crystals too. Photographs are taken of the moved trigger objects as part of our findings.
At 1.30am, the team resume the investigation and set up in the bar lounge area. Mick calls out for spirit to make contact with us by knocking on one of the tables, or by touching one of the team members. As he does this, Kevin again picks up the male with the large build, encountered in the first part of our investigation. Jo comments on how she feels like spirit are again watching us out of curiosity. Mick senses the presence of 2 little girls who like to play in the pub and that they only became friends after they passed on to the spirit world. Claire tells us that she feels as if “someone just walked over her grave” as the old expression goes, because she shivered from head to foot momentarily. The team notice how the atmosphere begins to change.
Jay says he can feel a tingling sensation in his head and Jo notes that she is now getting a headache and feels the air is very oppressive. Mick and Kev both pick up on the male energy encountered earlier and see him in breeches and black leather boots. They feel he keeps spirit back, as he has a very nasty attitude and isn’t happy to see us there at all. He carries a staff with him and wants us to “leave my pub”. Mick says this man is called Jack and reports the back of his neck to be red-hot for which we have no reason. Mick also senses a buxom wench by the name of Martha and feels that this pub was used for something else, prior to it becoming a public house. The time is now 2.18am, so bearing in mind that the Landlord Kevin is still awake while we conduct our investigation after having worked hard all night, we decide to call it a night and head back to the fireplace area to do closing protection.
Conclusion
This was a fantastic investigation and the team at Portals To Beyond would like to extend their thanks to Kevin the Landlord and all the staff for giving us the opportunity to investigate The Ringlestone Inn, and for making us so welcome.
Sadly, due to time constraints (bearing in mind that the Landlord had been on his feet all night and needed to be up early the following morning) we didn’t get to investigate the upstairs areas, so we would welcome a chance to go back to The Ringlestone Inn at some point in the near future.
It was the opinion of the team that a fair amount of spirit energy still inhabits The Ringlestone Inn, and with the exception of the unpleasant male spirit presence that was picked up on, everything else we encountered was not threatening in any way at all. We managed to capture some great light anomalies on our photographs which on closer inspection are shown to have maze like formation to them.
Our researchers continue to look in to the names that our mediums picked up on, and we will advise Kevin of any information we uncover.
