Paul, the Landlord of The Two Brewers was also present on the investigation along with 13 guests.
We arrived at The Two Brewers around 9pm so that we could have a look at our surroundings and discuss the order of events for the evening whilst waiting for the rest of our team to arrive.
As Jo and Kevin sat talking, Jo sensed a strong male energy behind Kev, and Kevin felt that this spirit presence is called James.
Jo then approached the guests and asked them to each sign a disclaimer, whilst explaining a little bit about how we work as a group.
Darren, Dante and Kevin carry out baseline readings in the upstairs areas as well as setting up trigger object experiments.
The investigation began at 11.25pm with Kevin carrying out a spiritual protection for all present and we started in the main bar located downstairs.
We ask that everybody sit down while we conduct a quiet vigil.
Both Jo and Kevin call out for spirit to make contact with us, but nothing is noted at this time. Cath, Jo-Jo and Tina then mention how they have each felt a male energy present in the ladies toilets, and several of the female guests confirm that they have also felt as if they were being watched, or felt uncomfortable in there, and one guest in particular, Andrea, told us how on one occasion she saw someone stood in the ladies toilets as she entered, but they then disappeared straight away.
Jenny picks up a female energy presence on the stairway area, and feels this lady is called Emma. Jenny senses her “bobbing back and to” up and down the stairs.
Ash feels that the letter “J” is of importance, which was interesting, as Kevin had picked up on the name “James” before Ash arrived.
Kev calls out for spirit contact again, but nothing else is picked up on and Tina and Jo-Jo mention how they both feel a strong pull towards the smaller bar area, the family room, so we move in to that area for a quiet vigil to see if anything is felt by the team and it’s guests.
Paul, the Landlord, tells us how he has seen a spirit presence stood behind the bar some years earlier.
Jo-Jo then begins to pick up on a strong male spirit energy who would be in his late teens, and feels his name was James. Again, this is of particular interest because of Kevin picking this up before Jo-Jo arrived at the venue.
One or two of the guests say they have heard a whisper or murmuring noise in the corner of the room, and Jo confirms that she too heard this. Tina and Kevin pick up on the name of William. Paul feels a tug on the back of his jacket as he takes part in the vigil and Kev confirms that he’d also felt the same thing on his jacket.
Jo-Jo picks up on a spirit dog, a Jack Russel or small terrier type, and says how she can feel him sat on her feet and the Landlord confirms that this dog used to live in the pub with him and that he was quite well known for always sitting on peoples feet!.
Several of our guests report feeling a sudden drop in temperature, and one guest in particular, Mike, changes seats to escape the cold draft around his legs.
Jo-Jo asks for spirit to show themselves to us, and Darren picks up on an injured male spirit energy, with a scar on the right side of his face and connects this with the year 1836/1837. Jo-Jo feels this head injury led to a stroke.
Several of our team start to connect with William, reporting that he smoked cigars as they can smell this, and that he is reluctant to make his presence further known.
At this point, Andrea, Carol and Mike hear voices other than those of the team present, and Jo feels that the 3 of them, more so Andrea, are very sensitive to spirit as she has picked up on a spirit presence in the ladies toilets on past occasions. She can also smell a musty smell at this point, and Julie reports that her legs are freezing from the icy draft blowing around them. Carol says she can feel a tingling on the right side of her face, and her hands are tingling also.
The team and guests then move in to the far end of the main bar by the fireplace.
A quiet vigil is conducted in this area to begin with. Jo-Jo feels that the premises was a home originally and was also in 3 parts.
As the vigil takes place, Kev calls out for spirit again to make some form of contact with us. At this point several of the team are stood up, and also one or 2 of the guests.
It’s noted by one of the guests that the floor feels as if it’s swaying, and Darren agrees that he too can feel this and in fact it’s quite a strong feeling so Jo and Jo-Jo join Darren to see if they can feel this for themselves. They both confirm that they can feel themselves swaying too and have to keep steadying themselves. Jo asks that Andrea and Paul join them to see if they can feel this also, and both confirm they can.
Darren and Adrian both remark on the fact that they just feel as if they’ve been touched on their necks, and at this point spirit step in a little too close to Adrian and he feels very short of breath and a tightening sensation around his neck so Jo and Kev take Adrian away from the area to give him some healing.
Andrea feels as if she is being pushed forwards and Kev and Darren also pick up this feeling. At one point, Darren, Kev, Jo and Andrea are all pushed forwards at the same time!. Paul joins the circle of people and the group note how each person is pushed or pulled forwards in turn then and are even pushed by spirit when asked!.
Jo feels as if a curious spirit is watching the group here, and for the next few minutes various members of the team notice that one or the other of them experience a light touch on their arms or head.
Just after this it’s recorded that the people who were pushed or pulled in the circle, notice that things seemed to have gone flat, as if the spirit has left them now and the swaying sensation has stopped.
At this point a short break is called, and coffee was very kindly provided by Paul for which the team were extremely grateful.
As Jo waited for the guests to finish their break, Dante and Kev check the investigation equipment and after a short break themselves Jo-Jo and Tina head off upstairs to take a quick look around. It’s noted that the camcorder had not only been turned off upstairs, but was also on on the floor, not where it had been left!. Batteries also had to be replaced in cameras as they had been drained without being used much at all.
At 01.25am it’s noticed by Adrian that a board hung up on the lower half of the bar is swinging back and forth!. This happens for the next 4 and half minutes without the board slowing down in it’s movement at all!. The team and guests stop to watch in amazement as this board moves back and forth without it would appear, any natural cause. When the board eventually stopped moving, the team tried jumping up and down to see if vibrational movement had made this event occur, but the boards remained still.
Kevin and Jo-Jo pick up on the presence of a spirit child about 5-7 years of age, a ragamuffin type with long brown straggly hair. Kevin then calls out in surprise as he feels sharp pinches on the side of his chest, and when lifts his shirt up to show us, you can indeed see the pinchmarks appearing as he is pinched.
The following are notes made by Tina during her brief exploration of the upstairs areas whilst the team were on a break.
“While in the corridor upstairs we encountered a spirit lady called Emily. We were crying, as all we felt was great anguish from this lady. At one point I became frozen to the wall and all I could do was repeat over and over again 'I am so cold, I am so cold' (and I really was cold!) I realised that it wasn't me saying that so I called Jo-Jo who asked the spirit lady Emily to back off a little and I was able to relax and move. It wasn't exactly a frightening experience but most unusual as I have never felt anything like that before!. This lady had been stripped and beaten and made to walk around like that. Whilst Kev was doing the closing protection Jo-Jo was having difficulty, as Emily would not leave her alone. At the same time Darren was getting pictures in his head. He saw water, and a vision of a little girl at the bottom of some stairs in the dark calling out for help. He also saw an old man sitting down drinking a pint!. Outside the pub was very interesting indeed, the whole village is so active!.
There is someone sitting in the front beer garden and one of the guests was able to tell me that alot of people see someone or something walking around out there when there isn't anyone physically to be seen. Jo-Jo also felt a lot of activity out there, picking up on a horse and cart.
The extension, which is the toilet block, is built on top of the old beer garden and the chap who makes his presencre felt around the toilet area isn't impressed. Before we went upstairs Jo-Jo had to turn away from me as my face changed and she saw huge bruises across my face, Emily perhaps?.
There are also alot of white shapes moving out in the street, including that of a young woman killed on the road, apparently she has been seen running in front of cars, Paul has seen her himself. There is a WW1 street party going on and all manner of things, we ended up describing it as a mini Pluckley!. This is somewhere we would definitely like to return to, as it really is an amazing village”.
The rest of the team and guests then joined Tina and Jo-Jo to start the next part of the investigation in the upstairs areas.
We head in the main living room and start a vigil. Several of the guests report feeling neck pain which proves to be interesting, because unknown to them Jo had just spoken in private to Tina, Jo-Jo and Kev who were in the little corridoor to the side of the living room, and they had told her about picking up on Emily, a spirit lady who had been beaten and abused by her Husband for her failure to produce a Son for him, instead giving birth to a Daughter, also named Emily after her Mother. They were both kept apart, and little Emily was eventually starved to death after her Mother suffered a broken neck at the hands of her abusive Husband.
Dante takes several EMF readings, which fluctuate more around the sensitive ones in the group, such as Andrea, Carol and Julie.
As the spirit presence of Mother and Daughter is proving to be quite traumatic for several members of the team, and due to the fact that we had agreed to conclude the investigation by 2am out of consideration for our host and Landlord Paul, we decided to call it a night and head downstairs for closing protection led by Kevin.
Jenny also made a few notes of her findings through the night and these are as follows.
“After seeing a shadow on the top of the lower staircase I did some pendlum work there, and this did indicate activity as I had suspected.
In the main bar area to the left, felt an older male, around 55 years old, drowning his sorrows. Ash also felt this too. Behind the main bar I picked up on a lovely lady, very sociable, and I’m uncertain as to the time period, but I feel this was possibly a Tiller girl, a blond bombshell who had run the pub during the war. I didn’t pick up anything in cellar, but Dante detected a warm spot on the old stairs, I felt this too. Upstairs in the back bedroom, I feel this was a childs room. Ash called for spirit to communicate with us and Cath, Ash, Dante & myself sensed her, she touched Cath’s hair & my leg, bless her. I saw flash of white touch Ash on head (I also saw this before he went into trance at Shoreham Village Hall)”.
After the investigation has closed, Jo thanks the team and all of the guests for their enthusiasm and patience, and thanks are given to Paul for allowing us in his premises to do the investigation.
Conclusion
What an amazing night!.
The team at Portals To Beyond, and also our dear friends from CWM Paranormal, would like to extend their thanks again to Paul for allowing us in to his home to conduct the investigation.
It was a real pleasure to meet everybody present on the night, and very interesting to find that several members of the guest team are in fact very open and sensitive to spirit, such as Andrea, Mike, Carol and Julie.
We realise that sometimes people have certain expectations of what takes place on a paranormal investigation and so sitting down in a room to conduct a quiet vigil is hardly a thrill for the onlooker, but we as a group insist on these things being done in a calm and respectful manner. If we wanted to go out and scream “Ghost” everytime something unusual happens then we not only waste our own time and money, but that of the venue owners!.
It was difficult to take any conclusive readings from our EMF meters and temperature equipment owing to the large number present on the investigation, but going on what people experienced, it would seem that there were temperature drops on several occasions.
Paul and Steve both confirm they have seen a spirit girl child around the premises and there have been sightings of a man in a tweed jacket leaning on the till, who has disapeared by the time you go for a second look!. Then there’s Andrea, picking up on the spirit presence around the toilet areas. Denise noticed that she felt chubby arms around her shoulders, and feels this was a male energy, Lucky saw her Brothers jumper move at the back and he turned around as she noticed this because he'd felt it too, so all in all we feel that there is definitely a good deal of paranormal activity in The Two Brewers!.
We have several photographs of orbs around the team present that night, and these in themselves are open to discussion. Orbs are one of the first signs of a spirit presence, and they vary in shape and form but we must also bear in mind things like dust particles, moisture content in the air and so on.
Having spoken to Paul after the investigation had closed, it was agreed that the team could return in the future perhaps with a view to performing a clearance. This would help the Mother and Daughter spirit energies to be re-united and move on in peace to where they should be.
All in all, a great night of paranormal investigating with some interesting findings documented and we look forward to our return at The Two Brewers.
